Wanted to edit post, but if it's still that confusing, i'll just take a screenshot of the work area of the latest video I did for an example.

We were all talking about video layers, not audio layers... Anyway, the lack of a razor tool is one of the big pitfalls, but to each his own i guess. o.o;;

Given the way AE operates, I don't know how a razor tool would work :/Orwell wrote:Wait wait wait, ALL AE's don't have razor tools?BasharOfTheAges wrote:We were all talking about video layers, not audio layers... The problem is layer management. In after effects, EVERY CUT RESULTS IN A NEW LAYER. If you have 700 cuts, you have 700 layers. In an NLE like premiere pro, you can easily have all 700 cuts in only 2 layers.
In a video like whisper of the beast, the entire video is a composite of multiple clips. It makes sense to do it all in AE. For most videos though, the majority of the video is made up of straight video clips, not composites, and so its a LOT easier to put it together in an NLE first.
If this wasn't the case, then Adobe wouldn't even sell Premiere, because no one would buy it.

I guess that's why I do AE then; almost all of my music videos with AE *are* going to be/are 50-70% nothing but composites.Zarxrax wrote:The problem is layer management. Also, that's what multiple-compositions are for; in my last video I used six or seven compositions within one composition, stuff like that.
I was bringing it up because of this (the razor tool is easily bypassed btw, just do control + shift + D in AE and then press delete, easy razor tool)BasharOfTheAges wrote:We were all talking about video layers, not audio layers... and then when Zarxrax said this;shawndow wrote:Anyways I'm lookin to start my first AMV useing After Effects seeing how i got it off first hand. But is it an easy enough proogram for just synicing clips with the music. I want to do all that high speed grapics stuff later.
That's when I brought in that you can effectively synch that stuff.Zarxrax wrote:No, After Effects SUCKS at just syncing clips to the music. You want to do that in something like Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas.
I mean i'm just saying; most AMV's ive seen that "sync" stuff to the music only do like, 50 or so synchs per song, I was doing around 500-600 at least and was able to keep things organized. So it's still not a horrible idea (for me in my opinion at least) to use AE as a NLE.
