Need good compression software ASAP
Ok, i have this new editing software Magix movie edit pro 12. Its great. Just one problem. When I export the file size is HUGE!!! as an AVI its almost 200mb. As mpg 2 its 103mb. Thats the lowest I can get it. I want it to look exactly the same but with less memory. Im trying to enter it in a contest and the due date is friday. Im not very good at compression So someone help me please!!!

Ok what I did was take my original mpeg2 file and opened it in virtual dub. Then I just save as and used the DivX 6.5 Codec encorder thing. As for the options I kept it the same. Rate Control = 1 pass quality based and target quantizer = 4 and quality = 8.
Now the size isnt a problem, it went from 103mb to 66mb. And ive seen it a few more times and to me it looks the same (although Im a bit skeptical with all the loss of memory, but im hoping thats normal). The contest I want to send it to accepts avi files, but would prefer it in mpeg 2 files.
So should i just send it as an avi, or try to convert it to mpeg 2? If u think I should convert it then this is where I need help.

That is the only reason you would recompress, but still don't. If you have the original uncompressed export, work on that. Lossy -> lossy always results in (further) loss of quality, so you should avoid it when possible.
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.
