I was just making a comparison. To say animation is in a different category because it's from a different country is the same as saying music, or anything for that matter, belongs in a different category because it's from another country. Cartoons is a broad word used to describe animated television shows/movies. Anime falls under this category.

Right.
Rap and Country are both types of Music. They are very different, but are still both types of Music. You don't say that Rap is Country, or that Country is Rap.
Anime and Cartoon are both types of Animation. They are very different, but are still both types of Animation. You don't say that Anime is Cartoon, or that Cartoon is Anime.

car·toon Pronunciation Key (kär-tn)
n.
1.) A drawing depicting a humorous situation, often accompanied by a caption.
2.) A drawing representing current public figures or issues symbolically and often satirically: a political cartoon.
3.) A preliminary sketch similar in size to the work, such as a fresco, that is to be copied from it.
4.) An animated cartoon.
5.) A comic strip.
6.) A ridiculously oversimplified or stereotypical representation: criticized the actor's portrayal of Jefferson as a historically inaccurate cartoon.
These are the definitions given by dictionary.com. The first one refers only to comedy, but since we are talking about animated shows in general, we need not concern ourselves with it. THe second one also is irrelevant to the discussion. Same with the third, it doesn't even refer to TV shows. The fourth definition supports my argument, saying that anything animated is a cartoon. The fifth doesn't refer to TV shows. THe sixth one also doesn't mean anything to this discussion.
In short, every animated TV show or movie or whatever is a cartoon. The way the word is used, the word cartoon is synonamous with the words animated entertainment media. Therefore, animes are cartoons, but cartoons are not necessarily anime. Anime is a sub genre of the genre cartoons/animation.

That's ok. I can see it very well now. And it looks awesome! It's really great.Clara Yuri Asaki wrote:I'm so sorry Anime Jedi!! Ahhhh.. it's my fault the Emoticons or My Sig isn't showing up. I think if I change my Sig to a JPG instead of the Bitmap that it now, a-m-v.org might not have trouble loading it. Since it never finishes loading my Sig Pic, it won't go on to the rest the stuff (Emoticons) SORRY!!!

And RogeRgal, ANIMATION INCLUDES CARTOONS!!! Not the otherway around!
I hate to say this, but I think it was a problem with the pic. What was worse was, since it never finished loading, every site I went on last night, I couldn't see their pics either. I knew it was something here, 'cause I was fine until I checked this thread. I tested this twice. But all fine now.

Sheesh, nevermind, I'm done with this debate, because I dislike it when people can only use the argument "I'm right because I'm right" which is, no offense, but it's basically what all you have been saying boils down to. You have yet to show a single piece of concrete evidence why anime would not be considered a cartoon. Until you do, I'm done, because I dislike debates of opinion.
