I use one called "Cucusoft iPod Movie & Video Converter" it cost me like $20 but it will convert just about anything I put into it... though varying frame rates can often kill a conversion O.o

pretty much it puts it into a format that ipod can handle

Videora was good (and free) for converting when I had my ipod - http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/

that sounds like a sad story...

Another one would be Super

I find videora the best for getting the video to convert [It handles different file types better], however, if Super works, I find it has the best quality to file-size ratio [which is important to me when I convert entire anime series', audio 96kbps, video 336kbps, will fit 52 eps onto 1DVD with decent quality as long as the episodes aren't over 25min]... Unless you just ramp the bitrate right up... in which case it doesn't matter... but you'll have larger files.

It was (it was a gift and I lost it at school due to my own stupidity, and I could never afford a replacement)

PS - watching AMVs on an iPod is awesome. I'd suggest keeping the bitrate up a bit with AMVs, unless you're trying to store a real mass of them on it. I had maybe 40AMVs on it, and despite decent settings they didn't take up a lot of room at all.

x2

I highly suggest this. It does both AVI and MP4 (if you know what you're doing).
