I try not to watch effect heavy videos too much though, so I'm only commenting on the ones I've seen. And those had so many effects I couldn't even see the story being presented if there was one.otbwavelength wrote:I think the general problem with a lot of people here is that you all equate having lots of effects and beat matching with not following the storyline at all.Beast Spear wrote:I've never really liked effects much. Sometimes it's nice to have a little something, but "Eye candy videos" I find to be quite boring. I'd prefer some substance in the theme or idea of the AMV than just lots of effects, and the seizure inducing effects are...very annoying. When I have to close my eyes or turn away when watching something, that's pretty bad...
And if it's what most people prefer now...let them, you can't change their mind. But as proof by this topic, there are people who don't, so at least they can enjoy an old school video if it is released.
I think the real problem is when people try and use effects to carry the video, not the editing or storyline. I think effects are fine to be with a video, I've seen many many that use them very well, but I think someone should let the editing and theme carry the video, not the effects because some people just go effects crazy, and when they start doing that I think they should think about their theme or editing rather than just try and cover it with the effects.
