What setup do you have for editing?
What rig setup do you use to do your editing? What kind of PC, processor, memory, HD, video card, and software?
Currently I have a PC from the Ice Age in a HP Pavilion (and Ironicly my keyboard stopped working as I was typing)....
1.5GHz Pentium 4
256 MB SDRAM
NVidia TNT2 M64 graphics card with 32MB SDRam
40 GB Ultra DMA HD
I'd say it's time for an upgrade, lol.
And the software I use is Vegas 5.0 with a little bit of Windows Movie Maker 2 and Photoshop on the side. Also I use the Sound Recorder and Windows Media to do audio editing that I need when I want to add to the video.
For ripping my DVD for the vide I use Smartripper, TMPGenc, Virtualdub, AVIsynth and all the other standards reccomended by most here at the org.
How about you? What's your editing setup?

I'm working on my computer, and it's the only one which I have lol. I'll just make a copypasta from my profile :
Other programs I'm using : DVD Decryptor (haven't used it for AMV editing yet lol),AviSynth,Adobe Photoshop,Adobe Premiere Pro(sometimes),VDubMod,Zarx264 and few more AMVApp thingies.
As for editing program - I'm using Vegas 5.0,and I find it comfortable enough. I don't see any need to buy/upgrade to 6.0 or 7.0 , as this version has everything I need to edit.Mah Profile wrote:AMD Athlon 3200+
768 MB of RAM
80 GB HDD + 160 GB HDD
Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT
DVD+-RW / CD-RW Drive

Yes you do need an upgrade! Protip: processor is what you should be concerned about most as far as editing purposes. Get one of them fancy dual-cores for great justice! (unless you're getting into massive AfterEffects usage, in which case I hear it's quite RAM-hungry as well).
I got a free upgrade by swapping a monitor today.
My relatively new rig, aka. Temple of Isis mk1.02:
AMD64 4600+ dual-core CPU
2GB DDR2 RAM
nVidia GeForce 8600GTS
80GB HD + 120GB and 300GB external drives (the 300GB one is borrowed, though)
Dual monitors - 15" and 22" widescreen, both LCD
Creative XFi soundcard, two sets of Creative speakers (2.0 and 2.1, usually hooked up together for a fake 4.1 setup), Sennheiser HD515 monitors (most editing's done on those)
Using Premiere 6.5 as far as software.
Very affordable setup there, I think, with some wretched excess here and there.

I'm going to upgrade my machine up to something like this :Otohiko wrote:Yes you do need an upgrade!
AMD Athlon 64 4000+
3GB DDR2 RAM
500 GB HDD + My current ones
Samsung 21" Widescreen LCD Monitor
nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS (a very good card you've got there o.O)
But that'll happen only when I'll earn enough money lol ^^

Mind you though, if I only did editing, I'd actually have a much cheaper PC. Most of what I spend on it is really not editing-related, but rather for my games
