If you don´t want unoriginal stuff than don´t watch it. People should think sometimes twice if an amv really needs a story to be good or better.
Do I need story here? Hell no! And it still rocks my ass.

Interesting discussion so far.
I think sometimes people confuse "originality" and "unique" a bit.
A theme can be original, but the footage not be all that unique. And in the process it falls flat.
A theme can be more of the same such as romance, but the footage is so unique, that it grabs you.
I've watched amvs with songs I KNEW I would never watch otherwise, as the genre is simply of no interest to me, and yet, the amv was so interesting, I watched it, and enjoyed it, regardless of the fact the song on it's own would never have been listened to otherwise.
Now that doesn't always work eh. Some songs suck enough, that even though I wanted to like the footage, the song kept intruding and bugging me.
I have an amv I discovered the other day. It has a Cindy Lauper song, but not sung by her. I really like the footage though, and the only problem is the song. But the song is about the same duration as the actual original.
Simple solution, I just asked my son (who has the darned talent I lack) to merely strip the wrong song off, insert the new song on, and presto, I can amuse myself listening to the amv in a way I prefer
Granted that would probably annoy the original amv creator, but, it's not like I am going to pass it off as m y creation, I just get to listen to it in a way I like more.
But I have watched stuff I thought was really neat, simply because it actually was.
I think the amv "A Total Waste of 6 min 35 sec" is rather inspired humour, even though it's really a limited joke. Once you've made all your friends listen to it once, there's not much more you can do with it eh.
But, it makes the grade for definition of uniquely original, even if the concept might not be revolutionary.

Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

x2, though I found the effort category to be the most useless =/inthesto wrote:It's that category in the opinion scores that somehow manages to be even more useless than the rest.
just make what you want. my work always tend to be unoriginal, but I don't care cause I put more effort in editing and in what I want to do, screw you originality =/

Perhaps this topic has gotten over complicated?
Originality is, well 'new'. The first time amusing subtitles where added to an AMV, the first time video game footage was used, pritty much anything done for the first time.
It doesnt say anything for the AMV, the brand-spanking new idea you've brought in might suck in terms how its edited and such, but its still original. On the flip of it, you can take that dead horse, flog 7 shades of crud out of it and still get a slick video.
Sorry to fule this, just wanted to add my 2p's worth.

"Its 16kg, 39cm and holds 6+1 13mm rounds, each shell is made from a baptized linkin park album and the casings are pure Konoha head-bands. No freak fanboy could eat these and come back for more"

welcome to my world ^_^lestheanimesarge wrote:.. asked my son .. to merely strip the wrong song off and insert the new song in its place ..
many times I've made an AMV and replaced the Music with another song - just to see if it would work. I'm actually amused at how many times one song can replace another song and not really affect the AMV ^___^ .. besides .. the fact .. that none of the Syncing works right -- hehe.
