I decided to bite the bullet and buy up the volumes of Ergo Proxy I was missing. I figure I'm rolling the dice, but I'd rather not pay an overpriced amount for them down the road because they are considered "rare."

Sadly, yes:
ANN wrote:The onetime anime distribution company Geneon Entertainment (USA) Inc. has notified its retail customers that it will cease "the sales of DVDs and all related distribution and marketing operations as of 5 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2007."
Therefore, as of 9 hours and 41 minutes ago (at the time of this post), everything Geneon is official out of print and is almost completely unavailable except for those with existing stock. :(

angelx03 wrote:It's saying that if you order something around tomorrow or so, you can't return it back to them. As for the upcoming releases, they're in limbo. Here are the titles affected:

- Rozen Maiden
- Black Lagoon
- When They Cry
- Karin
- Hellsing Ultimate
- Nanoha
- Guardian of the Sacred Spirit
- Familiar of Zero
- Saiunkoku Monogatari
- Shana OVA
- Kyou Kara Maoh! Season 2
- The Law of Ueki
- Deltora Quest

Those are a combination of the ones recently licensed back in the summer and the ones that are in the middle in releasing. Ugh, this is depressing.
What's even more depressing, though, is the loss of a ton of series and movie classics that Geneon carried that can't be obtained now unless they are in retailer's stock, relicensed, or Geneon does eventually get a distribution agreement:

(selected titles list)

- 3x3 Eyes
- Ai Yori Aoshi (& AYA Enishi)
- Akira
- Appleseed (2006)
- Bastard!!
- Cardcaptor Sakura (series and movies)
- Chobits
- El-Hazard (& El-Hazard 2)
- Fafner
- Fushigi Yugi (entire series, including OVAs)
- Paranoia Agent
- ROD The TV
- Serial Experiments Lain
- Every Tenchi Muyo title
- Trigun
- X the TV series

There's more than that, but that small list alone should give you an idea of the anime vacuum left by their ceasing DVD sales. :(

man...I hope that they manage to somehow finish releasing all of Higurashi
I share your grief. If someone else picks it up and decides to change the voice actors around, as happens far too often, it'll throw off the whole dynamic of the show.

Probably shouldn't get anyone's hopes up, but I understand that some companies, such as Funimation, have expressed SOME interest in picking up a couple of the Geneon titles. No idea as to how far they will go through with these considerations, just something to think about.
Probably too busy to be here right now.
