Quad-core doesn't require multi-threaded apps to be useful. The most instant gain you will receive is from running multiple tasks at once. Say you are running 8 separate programs. Depending on load and such, the OS may run two programs per core thus spreading the load.XiaoMovieMaker wrote:I wonder why people buy Quad Cores
Intel stated that unless your computer is connected by a network or if you're an IT Professional, you can only use 2 of the 4 cores >.>
So unless you have some multi hard drive network, isn't a quad core a waste of money? A core 2 Duo is basically the same thing O_O
Of course, if you do have a multi threaded app that can run more than two threads simultaneously (such as the newer versions of premiere) You will notice a much greater gain. Especially in a video editing hobby like this, you can't go wrong with more processing power.
Anyways, here are my specs... I plan to upgrade my motherboard, ram, and processor in a few months...

--1 TB total HDD space, 500 GB of which are in a redundant RAID 1
--2GB PC3200 DDR Ram
--Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
--Antec P180 case
--Logitech Wireless Mouse and Keyboard combo
--Maddog 16x dual layer DVD burner

Speaking of my new system. I'm having a problem where if I install Vegas it causes problems with Windows Media Center? I have a TV Tuner and it works fine until I install Vegas, and then I have to uninstall vegas and do a system restore to get Media Center Reciever Service to work again and see my TV Tuner in Media Center.
Vegas is causing it to crash. So I don't know what to do about this. It's making me choose between them.
Anyone else have issues like that on their system with Windows Media Center?
Should I just go out and exchange Vegas for Premiere?
