Good first episode, though in truth really didn't shed too much light on to how the story is going to unfold. No mecha were stolen here and it did have a bit of FMP feel to it at the start seeing as how the FMP director (or writer, I can't remember) is involved here.
I'm going to keep up with this series because firstly, I'm a fan of the genre, but secondly as well, it seems to purposely try to make itself different from other Gundam series that have happened before.

Hmm I'm pretty sure its the FMA writer not the FMP. The animation is crisp and its displayed in HD, I'm bloody addicted to the OP song DAYBREAK'S BELL [L'arc~en~ciel], for some reason it just grew on me faster than any other OP in an anime so far this year. Also I have a feeling that the anime may take ideas from Gundam Wing though I hope it stays unorthodox.

Actually, yeah, it is FMA XD... but it felt reminiscent of FMP in the beginning
I'm not so fond of the music here thus far. As I said, this show seems to be trying to distance itself from its predecessors which also includes the music. It's not the usual rave style high energy JPop that I've grown accustomed to, well, fallen in love with to be more precise. As such, this opening (and ending) haven't really impressed me as much.

Having seen some of the previous Gundam series,I can't say this first episode drew my attention. The quality was superb, the design was amazing but the story didn't make easy to follow so far.And the classic "we have to fight to stop wars from happening" shouldn't be given so bluntly in the first episode.
The music also didn't help at all.The opening was so-so(I love L'Arc en Ciel but this opening is totally opposite in style compared to the openings of GS,GSD,GW and so on) and I couldn't stand the ending.

Also GSD has the best ED song ever. There is NO ED song which could possibly beat Nami Tamaki - Reason, it raised the bar too high in terms of awesomecore ED songs. Though its a shame that the ED song doesn't lead in at the end of the episode with a dramatic scene, I like anime which does that, like the second or third ED of FMA I think, all of the Seed Destiny songs and Kannaduki no Miko.

Oropher,I know about Gundams and I don't disagree with your statement. It's just that GS and GSD had as a theme how sad it was to fight to stop wars and what sacrifices need to be made. After they struggled and killed, they realised that it's such a hugeOropherZero wrote:Gundam's trademark are the mechs and the theme of war. antithesis to kill in order not to stop killing.
While in Gundam 00,this dire realisation came as a simple statement and didn't deliver well as it had done in GS series. We'll see however how it goes...
As for endings,I loved all GS and GSD openings and endings apart from the last opening of GSD which was a total letdown. However,my favorite song from GS series still remains "Fields of Hope".
Concerning the endings which lead to dramatic outros of the episode,I liked a lot the ending of Black Lagoon.
