MVK doesn't work?

Post by anand1 » Sun Oct 14, 2007 2:36 pm

Well, i just got into avisynth and i was trying to create a script with a MVK file, but when i open the avs, it says DirectShowSource could not open "file name" an object or name was not found. But when I open it with an AVI file, it works fine. I think avisynth can't find the file for some reason, all MVK files aren't working in avisynth for me, does anyone know how to fix this?
Thx in advanced.

I believe you mean .mkv, and first off, would you mind posting your script?

this can get complicated really fast - but generally if WMP or MPC can play the mkv and theres only one video stream and one audio stream in the mkv then avisynth can usually play it. If it doesn't then the easiest solution is to just extract the video from the mkv file using virtualdubmod or mkvextractgui

I'm guessing you normally use VLC or something other than WMP or MPC for playback, and thus don't have the splitter, and probably don't have the right codecs for the video and audio streams either.

Well, I ried opening the file directly in Vdubmod and i got an error "found a fram with only one (forward) ref, unhandled!" And I am also able to play the file in Media Player Classic.

Ok, I am very sorry about the triple post, but i finally figured out the problem. I had one bad Mvk codec, disabled that right away. It still didn't work but then i tried re-writing the script to the exact folder to where it is and it worked! Thx for all your guys help !

This does not exist. Please do not say that again, EVER. MKV is a container and you can push any video stream from uncompressed to H.264 into an MKV container. There isn't, and there never will be, an MKV codec. There are splitters, which are a totally different thing.

I really hate .mkv files... for some reason the files fail to extract in mkvextract... maybe it's just the files, I don't know. But still I hate it. :? ... argh.
