Uploading

Post by EleventhAkatsuki » Sat Oct 20, 2007 8:34 pm

Hey guys, I'm having trouble uploading my AMV (my first one, now complete, w00t!) to this site and the ever-censored Utube.

How do you get through all the FTP stuff on this site? It's very mind-bottling.

Also, both sites have a 100 MB upload limit. My video, made in Vegas is either 250 MB (high quality, I believe) or 130 (slightly less quality). How can I upload these or reduce the file size without losing quality?

the guides are good things
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... yer/up.htm
and
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtechbeta/

this first one help with uploading with IE, otherwise you'll need to get a ftp client (you specifically need a client, an ftp server program won't do you too much good)

I use filezilla which I think is pretty intuitive, much like browsing your computer for files

the other guide helps with video prep and editing software project setup...but it also goes over compression.
It'l help if you read all of that second guide

What do you figure I should compress my video with (have VirtualDubMod for compression stuff, just so you know) so that it becomes the required file size for here and UTube?

Also, for that matter, what type of file should I render my AMV as to be able to put it on VirtualDubMod for compression? .wmv, .avi, and .vf haven't worked so far.

no matter what you do, the quality will look like s%#^ on the tube...so just do what's easiest for you

for the org, most people use mpeg1 or mpeg2, wmv, avi (divx or xvid) or .mp4 (using x.264 and meGUI or zarx264gui instead of vdubmod)

to retain as much quality as possible, you'll want to render an uncompressed avi, or use huffyuv or lagarith.

Some versions of vdub, and all versions of vdubmod (AFAIK) removes support for .wmv files (though you can work around it by using avisynth and directshowsource ).
never heard of .vf
.avi shouldn't be giving you any troubles though (at least no for loading into vdub(/mod)

What error do you get if you try to load an .AVI into VirtualDubMod?

I've got one saved as .avi, but it's at 1.26GB. Obviously a bit over the upload limit. I've also got wmv's, like I said, but again they're a bit over the size limit.

The section of the compression guide I saw just went over the types of compressed files. I've got the right type, it's just a bit too big, still.

If there's a particular section of the guide I missed that could help, please point me to it, or otherwise I'd like to ask how I can simply decrease the size of this file?

Here's the exact error message:
My Freaking Computer wrote:-Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown).
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatable codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used for Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only 'direct stream copy' is available for this video.
Then if I try to continue, I get the audio fine, but not the video.

I don't relaly understand; the video I'm trying to access IS in .avi format.

That means your video is a DV AVI and you need a VFW DV codec. You can get one here.

it really helps to know what's happening in the rest of the guide...this method may not give you as good of a result otherwise
