I dl'ed it, unzipped it, sent it to VDub and it's still not working. Same error message.

Is there any way BESIDES VDub to compress? or can you think of any way to solve this problem?

what do you mean when you say you sent it to vdub?
if you just put it into vdub's folder...that won't do you any good.
You need to actually install the codec (just let it install in its default location)

there are other programs that can encode video, but they might not be as flexible as vdub. The more control you have over the encoding process, the better the result can be.

Did you right-click on the .INF file and select "Install"?

No, I hadn't. I'm such a moron.

Anways, when it's in VDub, there's these little black colored patches on either side of the screen. How can I fix this?

Also, last time I "compressed" something with a codec like Lagarith, it ended up bigger than before.

Is there any way to set a limit on file size when compressing?

That's because lagarith is a lossless codec. It should be a few gigs in size, even if your source is a 4GB MPEG2 DVD.

Once you compress it down using a lossy codec for distribution, it'll be much, much smaller.

Any "lossy" codec you'd recommend for this?

Oh, and the 130 MB one managed to upload to Tube, albeit with the usual crapworth quality.

if you have AMVApp, best quality would come from using ZarxGUI to make an mp4.
