Re: your mums a horse O:
That match was close, I had no problem with the source in Kevs vid, but I probably would have also voted for dokool, only because his sync was more creative. Kevs is almost entirely synced via cuts, while Dokool has more a variety of both internal and cut sync.trythil wrote:Kevmasterflashdeluxe wrote: Errr..sorry, but I dont get the Judges decision either
Less A and R, and more S.
Anyway, heres my vid if anyones interested:

Too lazy to make an org entry, and Brad will do a compile anyway ;p

Would probably help if you linked to your source so that the people not insane enough to figure out where the image came from can figure out what A, R, S, and even D meantrythil wrote:Kevmasterflashdeluxe wrote: Errr..sorry, but I dont get the Judges decision either

Or to put it another way, I guess, cutting to every single accent isn't sync. It's a good way to blind people and induce seizures, though.
That's an oblique and incomplete way of expressing my decision process, but it's also short and doesn't require me to write out a lot. (If you want me to go into more depth, I can.)
Most people think I'm nuts, but in this case, I'm the metaphorical guy with a gun. So.
I vote for you going in-depth just because I'm definitely curious about how the judges are considering the the entries.

Source had little to do with my decision, since I hated both. >_>
I felt that Kev's vid was just too random and he chose to make a cut on every beat, when it wasn't nessecary. (as well, I wasn't a fan of some of the places he chose to cut, some of the timing seemed a bit odd to me). Dokools felt more thought out and not as random, as if you were actually going for something, linking the song and the vid, not just placing clips. I liked the feel of the cuts and how they fit to the song.
As well, I just honestly enjoyed watching Dokools more. End of story.
Every judge has a different way of choosing which vid they select, that's why there are five of us. Sometimes there is no "indepth" it's an, 'I like B more, I choose B.'
As well, it came down to a 2-3 vote, so no one should feel badly, it was close.

Well, it was a (needlessly) backhanded criticism, and I'm slightly abusing the ADSR concept anyway, so.dokool wrote: Would probably help if you linked to your source so that the people not insane enough to figure out where the image came from can figure out what A, R, S, and even D mean :P
However, what I mean to say is that I think Kev's video was cut too quickly, even if the cuts were well-placed. (Or, in other words, too much focus on attack and release, and not enough on sustaining a shot.) I couldn't really make heads or tails of what was going on. It felt as if I was watching a precisely timed yet highly disconnected jumble of images, with no chance to dwell on what I was supposed to be seeing. I felt this effect quite strongly in the beginning of the video.
There were some other characteristics of the video that I didn't particularly like -- the fade-on-hits, for instance, seemed sloppy in some areas. But it's the relentless match-every-cut-to-note-attack pattern that was most significant.
This isn't to say that fast cutting is always inappropriate. One of the keys to successful synchronization, in my opinion, is establishing and maintaining coherency between shots, and making sure that each shot flows into each other. If you can do that and maintain fast cuts, well, more power to you. I did not, however, see that in Kev's video.

Nah, no more 2-episode discs for me, I don't think IM me sometime so we can discuss when our match could be. I'd rather not start another one at 11PM but at least we're in the almost-same timezone so it should be easier...Infinity Squared wrote:Hmm... interesting...
Dokool... want to put in FLCL volume 1 in your next line up?
Also, as a suggestion for Round 2 - is there any chance that each match's results can come w/ a comment or two (anonymously) from the judges? Just an indicator of what they liked about the videos, didn't like about the videos, something like that. I know as Ness said sometimes it just comes down to personal opinion but I'm always interested to know what the judge's thought processes (or lack thereof) are.
