.. things don't normally go right when you separate Girls on one planet and Guys on another; the problem with this series is the home planet became un-live-able! It was decided by a small group of elders which stayed together for almost 40 years to seporate girls from boys. Nobody remembered what happened to Earth except the group of elders. Nobody even knew that Earth existed except for the elders. One day the men were launching a Military Ship into space when Female Pirates interfered with the lift-off from Space. The journey home had begun Captained by one of those elders who wanted to go home one last time ... the series . . VanDread.

I saw this thread and I had to include Detective Conan. It has a genious plot and characters, the mysteries in the show are fantastic, and it's originial. If it's so popular in Japan (Has been airing for 10 years and has 11 movies--all major moneymakers in Japan). And for me finding a Detective Conan fan is like the lottery, there are no Detective Conan merchandise at an Anime Convention, I've never seen a contest winning AMV (I might be wrong though), and the dubing is so slow by the time I die it they might just finish dubing season 7 and 5 out of the 11 movies. Even though people are discouraged by the lengh of the anime series it is one of the best out there.

I have a massive headache and can't remember if I've posted this here or elsewhere >.<
NazcaWhen spirits from Inca wars and kingdoms are reborn through magic and dying curses into the bodies of japanese students and their teacher the body count ends up being impressive. No to mention school boys get jiggy with "women" slaughter each other and try to destroy the world. The series was only 13 episodes but I enjoyed it and although there's lots of sword fights and tragic deaths 'samurai-esque" it never made it down under or even into PAL i think. Unlike kenshin it doesn't go into stupid chibi 'comedy' moments, the whole of it is serious. And in the end it's all about honnour neither the hero or the antagonist can walk away 'cause they are both fighting for their respective kingdoms.
Bad points: The main character is a bit angsty and has a tendancy to whine but no where near the level of Shinji, The main villian is built up as a solid character and then flips his lid becoming a meglomaniac... no one saw that comming, why? cause it was a stupid thing to do with the most interesting character in the series. There are also many moments that remind me of starwars "succum to the darkside luke" and some crap about it being stronger. Really more of the 'ggod' characters should have died and their escapes seemed a bit like the dirctor going "oops i can't kill them yet, let's pick the most convaluted and unbelievable way for them to escape".

I would have to say Twelve Kingdoms, or Juuni Kokki. It's a fantasy that takes place in modern times, but mostly on another world that is definitely more Middle Ages with swords and kingdoms. It has quite a few interesting creatures and such a good plot. I wish they had kept the scabbard monkey thing going on longer, the inner turmoil thing was really interesting. It doesn't really have any romance or that much humor but it keeps me interested. I haven't finished it all yet, I think there's 40-some episodes, but it's definitely worth a try. I've never heard anyone mention, seen any merchandise, or cosplayers. I found it pretty much on accident.
Awesome show! Watch it!
Also, I wouldn't call Death Note underrated at all. I couldn't go around a corner last con without seeing an L or Light.
