need some opinions on a long project im starting..

Post by pseudosaiyan » Sun Nov 11, 2007 9:54 pm

heya, im starting a vid or series of vids based on tengen toppa gurren lagann (thats the easy part)

here comes my lil bit of insanity...
what i need opinions on is whether to:

1. make 20~25 individual vids covering the entire series (estimating 2~4 mins per vid)

2. make 5~10 longer vids covering the major portions of the series (estimating 5~7 mins per vid)

3. make one giant vid covering the entire series (estimating about 30ish mins in length)

feel free to comment, give opinions, give suggestions, or flame the idea =P

edit: all the songs will be consist of X-ray Dog, Nightwish, Savage Circus, Hans Zimmer...aka symphonic/metal/fast paced type songs

p.s. no edit option = sad panda

Question: Why are you making so many? You could always make a 5 minute AMV covering the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann series.

I think I kind of like your idea. I personaly would stick with making one long video, but switch up the songs. For me it would be too complicated to go the other way around. I'm pondering about attempting a long epic myself:)

If you say so, but I still think it's pretty damn hard to make a 5 minute AMV where people haven't gotten bored by the end of it (or at some point in it). Quality over quantity :0

Anyways, that's just me avoiding the question

There is no way in hell you should ever make 20-25 AMVs on just on anime. That option is out of the question. Same for number 2, even if you managed to make them all, they would each be so utterly crap and boring that nobody would watch them all.

If you simply must do this, then option 3 would be the best, just try not to lose your audience somewhere in the 30 minutes :/

i gotta agree wit pas. doing that many amvs basically just recreating the storyline of an anime would get kinda dull. the problem with a 30 min one tho would be like watching a 30 min recap of the series to music O_o. i dunno, u might be able to pull it off, but ive only ever been able to watch the mep (longer vid ones) based on the fact its multiple animes. but u could always surprise us

This could turn out to be genius or an epic failure.

To make a series of videos, they should be coherent together to work out properly. That means lots of planning and difficult editing, I guess. I don't know what kind of a thing you're trying to tell or express here. Is it a series of character profiles or massive re-telling or something else?

Well, I wish you luck and lots of patience. You should deffinitely plan the whole thing out very carefully before actually starting the editing process. If the videos shouldn't be well-edited, then the whole thing won't work out..

But, anyway, I approve the idea  :D

was gonna shoot for a massive re-telling, and by the looks of my older vids...i think ive finally just gone a wee bit insane, bonkers, looney, etc.

at this point editing the video is the least of my worries, getting the right music to fit each of the sequences is my major concern.

so odds are when i get a good bit into it i may post a rough cut (no transitions, fades, glittery stuff, etc. and then get opinions on if its looking decent or going down faster than a $2 hooker in vegas)

either way, its gonna take a while, a lot of smokes, and cost me quite a few brain cells.

I nearly went crazy making four RahXephon videos in a row. You can use the fact that you've "gone a wee bit insane, bonkers, looney, etc." as an excuse all you want, but I really don't think you understand what you're getting yourself into if you try and do any one of those proposed plans :/
