Hmm, well Pokemon, Cardcaptors, and Sailor Moon were my first entries into the wonderful world of anime...but then I stopped liking it for awhile...
Then discovered Inuyasha and the wonderful world of anime again.
Now as I already admire the wonderful world of anime, I'm pretty into Bleach as far as long series go.
Bwahah.

For long running series, I'd have to say One Pece easily tops the list, (for me) The unEDITED version of course. ( Sadly, that was an understatment)
Followed by Naruto,
And then D-Gray-Man's starting to look good...

What exactly is "Anime". Does that mean it has to be japanese style or does it simply mean animation?
Depending on how picky you want to be with the term, my first real animated show I would watch start to end was The Transformers when I was a kid. It didn't all start to flow together until the 3rd season. That's when the stories got to be a bigger arch, and I loved it. 93 episodes in the Series.
My first favorite anime was actually shorter as it only has 30-something episodes, but it was anime true to the form and it was awesome. It came before DBZ. It's Ronins Warriors (Samurai Troopers in Japan.) I loved that series.
I did like DBZ too, but that was far too slow paced for me to stick with. Also the fights all started to look the same after a while.
But if the criteria is more strict and it has to be Japanese anime with at least 50 episodes or so, I'd say Bleach.
I just discovered it and I'm currently addicted to Bleach. Bleach is the flavor of the year for me.
