Even if it's an anime, it still hits me in the gut when I saw Rose with her infant. It takes a moment to calm down, but there's still that lingering feeling of I want to slaughter the people responsible, I want them to suffer for eternity. It's such a strong feeling, even though we only see her for a couple of episodes.

Yeah, that was pretty heart-wrenching. I've never been a big fan of her, but what happened to her was totally unfair - which is why I think I like the series so much. So many things happen that are just totally unfair and have no reason, like real life.

I think that since the anime got to me first (or, I saw the parts of the anime before I ever read the manga) I'm actually........an Ed&Rose person........

 *dodges thrown objects* I just don't like Winry in the anime. Can you say useless? She's so much better in the manga though.....but the clincher for Ed&Rose is when they're dancing, and Ed is clearly shorter. :D

I've discovered that since I'm almost the caretaker of my house, pets, homework, ect, that I barely have time to read the new chapters of FMA, let alone freak out for long periods of time over the lack of a new one.......I'm so busy
whats kainda funny is that Ed's 5'6", and he's taller than me. ............and he's called short..............*sigh*

So what's the difference between the manga and the anime? The FMA wiki didn't say too much on that subject.

Well, the manga isn't half as depressing, for one thing. Lab 5 has a much larger part and it has nothing to do with Ed almost turning a bunch of prisoners into a philosopher's stone. And the Crimson Alchemist has a much larger, much more malevolent, role.

We also get to find out a lot more about the world they live in.

More characters from other continents, different sins (ie, not all the ones in the anime are the same as the ones in the manga), more backstory, more engaging plot...
anything more would be to spoil. :)

wiki is made of people that all watched the anime, apparently :?

the differences between the two are small at first, but by volume 5, 6ish? it gets bigger. by volume 7 its HUGE *squeels* all the anime-watchers that are too lazy to read the manga.......they miss out on LOTS. I'd say to go find a good scanlation, read, freak out, and buy the volumes later, when the holidays are past, and you don't have to spend money on gifts.

Oh yeah! Or find a library near you that carries the manga. It'll be a few volumes behind the official American release, but you will be supporting the artist without spending a dime.

You should probably be warned that the anime and the manga do not follow the same storyline. The first few episodes of the anime do coincide some with the manga, but for the most part the two take different story tracks. In fact the manga is still being produced while the anime finished with the FMA movie.

Now that's not to say that either one is better than the other. It's really a matter of opinion. Both are excellent stories in their own right. But just be warned that if you want to get into the manga, you should probably start reading from episode 1 if you don't want to be confused.

yeah, I totally get you on that point^^
I picked up FMA the manga when I was browsing a bookstore one time, and read a few pages, I left there thinking "did I make some sort or error?"

man, the series barely even comes close

*NOTE: the volume I picked up was vol.10
Everything came from nothing, therefore everything is nothing.

There's nothing to worry about.
