My friends and I were all major DBZ fanatics, and one of them loaned me a disk with a bunch of DBZ AMVs. That was the first I clicked. I hated Linkin Park sooo badly before I watched that video. (Crawling still grosses me out to this day. -_-)
Well, unfortunately, it got me hooked on LP, but it also got me hooked on AMVs. So I guess it's kind of a good thing?

It's a shame that all my videos back then were really crappy

God, I don't actually know. Some of the earliest ones I remember were from Kazaa. I remember a Berzerk video to Iced Earth's My Own Saviour, a FF9 video to Iced Earth's Dark Saga (which got me into Iced Earth) As well as a couple "LinkinBall Z" videos
I remember old AtomX videos and such as well. I guess it kinda doesn't work when I can't say what video I first saw, but oh well.

First video I watched was a DBZ video that wasn't all that bad. It was on a website that got shut down two years ago. Someone uploaded it on teh youtube

And the first AMV I saw on this site would probably be this;

I don't remember which video it was specifically :3
it was either something like Senshi on Springer or 'Cause I'm a Blonde or something else around the same age.. Material Girl? that Chibi Usagi Sugar Baby one?
haha.. all I remember is my friend Eric sitting me down and showing me a whole bunch of amvs at one time.. That was my introduction to them... He also told me back then (around 1999 or 2000) that he knew I was going to be into making them myself one day... I told him I didn't think so :3

I was at a local store which viewed anime every Tuesday night and before they watched anime they used to play AMVs. A girl who attended the club I believe made this video, but I can't be a 100% for sure.
