For like the 10th time, thank you guys. This is really turning out to be much more beneficial then flat out Google searching. I already have a rar program, I believe. If not, a Google search away, I guess.

And yes, all my AMVs will be off DVDs since I'm not a big fan of the quality you get with downloaded footage. Alright, thanks, I'll keep the search thing in mind.

Okay, a few more things. What the heck, right? Let's say I want to use the opening to the anime that's available. Is there anyway to take out the credits, do I just have to deal with it or would you consider...'rude', for lack of a better word, to take off the producers and whatnot? Also, do I have to leave the disc in the tray the entire time I'm editing, or can I take it out after the ripping? And... do I need anymore software? I like the challenge of using limited programs and hate to take up my memory, but I'm worried about not getting the quality I want.

if you have ripped the data off your discs onto your HDD then no you dont need to keep the discs in the computer. uhm if your worried about space then you can use something called the 'bait and switch' method, it requires a lot more planning on the part of making your amv tho.

you can find the related information all in this guide. in fact it will include a lot of technical details that will help with ripping, processing and rendering of your video.

as to the opening sequence, most dvd's will have an extra's area. in this you will almost always find a 'clean opening' and 'clean closing' (sometimes called textless opening/closing). this should be what your are looking for, if your dvd DOESNT have it im not sure how you would go about removing it tho.

There are programs/filters that use motion detection to attempt to hide credits/subtitles/etc. I have never needed to do this, and certainly never on my Mac. Pryzm is correct that many times one of the discs will have clean op/eds, especially the last disc of a longer series. Kare Kano has a clean op in the middle of episode 24.
Also, do I have to leave the disc in the tray the entire time I'm editing, or can I take it out after the ripping?
Ripping is the process of copying mpeg2 files to your harddrive. Since you have copied them in full, there is no need to have to disc in your drive.

Shazzy is fond of a program called Cleaner, it does a finer job of pre- and post-processing than DiVA, but I've never really played around with it. Unless your DVDs turn out to be badly encoded or telecined, DiVA should handle them nicely. If you run into issues, we can get more specific as to solutions. You shouldn't need anything but the three apps I have offered, as well as an editing suite.

Oh... okay, I get it. Thank you for being so patient. And, what RAR program would you recommend? I just tried to download the file, and it turns out I don't have one. I could've sworn I did, but it happens.
