I took my first steps in 1992. 8)
I'm sure about the video... I saw my first AMV before I knew what anime and manga are. It was probably Inuyasha AMV with "Dragostea Din Tei" in march/april 2006. Video itself wasn't good but "Osuwari!" scenes made my day. Since that I've loved Inuyasha although there is much better series around.
Second was awesome NGE video with Within Temptation's music (too bad I don't remember the song -.-) After that I got the idea to make own AMVs.
Video: Erään pienen ihmisen tarina
Category: Serious, Drama, etc
Anime: Serial Experiments Lain
Song: Erään ihmisen tarina
Artist: Harhakuvitelma
Creator: <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/usernum ... Tiiniuw
That was first video I downloaded from a-m-v.org.

Re: Who popped your AMV cherry?
First AMV that I saw:
When and where: it was back in 2004 at a local anime club's Halloween party.
How and why: The programmer just happen to have this on his/her playlist. I just happen to walk in right before it started.
First reaction: Mostly laughing but part of it admiring AD's editing.

I vaguely recall browsing the forums on some website and coming across a thread that linked to Decoy's Naruto's Technique Beat. I watched it at first and thought absolutely nothing of it. I later discovered all those Linkin Park + DBZ AMVs on youtube, tried making my own, and developed a brand new appreciation for my original cherry popping video.
