Mal, you'll be proud to here that thanks to CC, I'd categorize your video as 'upbeat' as well. It was pretty random. (I'd also call Burningleaves' one 'upbeat')

I hadn't seen Otohiko's, my fave is Kiki's sentimental one. But all these categories are pretty much the same to me, someone who hadn't seen the movie. for a video to be truly new it has to be WAY off concept, almost unrecognizable, like Waka Laka for Osaka. You can't tell me their's not enough Azu Dai videos, yet I could watch that one over and over.

 but then of coarse, it's been brought up that I don't watch amvs for the anime choice anyway. I'm not sick of Death Note, Azu Dai, anything in AMV Hell, to me overuse doesn't exist. I've complained about FMA use... but that's just because of use period.

.. one of the flaws in using Anime or Live Action DVD's are the limited number scenes available to be used in AMV's unless we Mask away the background and create a new location for the sequence of events to take place.
Image
.. keep the AMV realistic and avoid adding impossibilities T_T
Image
.. using scenes over and over again in one AMV is boring .. just imagine what would happen in 20 AMV's all used the same clips -- That too would be boring!
.. if you change the scenes to fit your needs, then AMV's are interesting ^_^

-- just a thought 8-)

Learn from dokidoki and do what post-it says.

Just add random shit to spice it up or make it funny. For example: Catwoman in Azumanga Daioh?

When I see one of these over used sources used in a unique way or a fun way I can't help but like it because due to the masses of videos out there... I guess the masses of videos gives me lower expectations for them.

if you are tired of an anime being used in AMVs.. don't bitch about it, just don't watch 'em.

I mean, I know you can't know if you'll like the vid regardless unless you watch it, but wait untill a lot of people say good things about it before wanting to take the plunge and whatnot.
while I mostly agree with you. (and indeed, that's what I do)
If everybody did that, then new amvs would never get a rating, and nobody would every see them. O.o

When I think about "overrated" source the first thing (maybe the only one) that comes in my minds is:
Final Fantasy - Advent Children

You can bitch about it as much as you want because it´s overused, but if you watch the movie, you get the reasons you need for a really big rant. What´s up with this bullshit? Just the name "Final Fantasy" and some cool action movies doesn´t justify crap. The only good thing about the movie is the animation. I give the fans of the movie this point and maybe the point for action, but the rest is complete bullshit.

For the rest of the overused stuff:
-Naruto. Why not. I really can think about why fans like the series.
-Deathnote. Oh I just started to read the manga. Nice stuff and the first ep wasn´t bad.
-DBZ. I like it. It´s not bad. It´s like the small, easy first step into anime world.
-Cossette - amvs. Come on guys. We had a lot in the last months. Let it rest for a bit. I hate you all that you released your videos before I have mine even started =P

QFT. Part of this is probably because a huge tsunami of videos (most of them bad) showed up all at once.

I'm lucky to have released mine way back in January '06, before the rush.
