lowering or editing out background music
Im making a trailer for an anime and want to use sound bites from the anime. Is there a program that lets you lower or mute the anime's BGM track?

.. phase discriminators can do that in a heart beat.
.. DBX does it without breaking a sweat.
.. placing the Front Channels out of phase with the Rear Channels can let you choose what you want to cancel-out.
.. these and many other Threshold Devices were common Filters in Cool Edit Pro before it was absorbed by Adobe; how you do it now is anyones guess!

.. in the FX Effects area you will see Karaoki. find the settings for "Variable Notch" and set it. Now use that Varible Notch Filter like a "balance control on a stereo" to locate the Voice or Musical Instrument that you want to suppress. you may have to loop it a few times to make sure you isolated what you are trying to suppress, it works, it works very very well ^_^ and it leaves the stereo background music untouched.

.. T_T .. ^^ a Notch Filter is like an Equalizer but its 12 times stronger than an Equalizer. You can specify any frequency and make it Louder "Q" or eliminate it all together "~" .. you can also set how wide the "bandwidth" can be. ( 250hz - 3,000hz ) .. in Cool Edit 96, there was a Threshold setting at the Notch Filter for activation on a given noise level .. if Drums were too loud, that frequency would trigger the Notch Filter and the Drums were suppressed.
.. Notch Filters, Like DBX Compressors, are very sensitive to Noise; you might need to play with the settings to have it work right for you.
