Easy to use video editing software

Post by TrinaBee » Sun Dec 09, 2007 3:13 am

Okay so I was using Windows movie maker, but recently it keeps crashing on me for no reason... So I am looking for another similar program that is just as good, or better that I can download for free. Also, it needs to be a really simple program because all I really like to do is add transition effects, make clips and add background music. So an easy-to-use software would work perfectly for me. Any advice would be great!!

There are certainly some reasons why WMM is crashing on you. Unfortunately, WMM (and Windows) doesn't give you much of a clue on what those reasons are. :(

Since there aren't many free (no cost) video editing programs and switching to a different program involves a learning curve, I suggest reading this thread if you haven't already done so: WMM FAQ.

That being said, aside from getting the popular NLEs (Non-Linear Editors) through illegal sources, there are a few no-cost programs listed in the Software Lists thread.

I'd recommend getting a copy of Magix Movie Edit Pro for $50 (or less, if you can find it on sale).

For this week (Dec 9 - 15) Best Buy has Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8 and Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8 on sale for $49.99 and $59.99 respectively. If you can somehow scrounge up $100, I think the Vegas 6 deal is still available.

I should also probably mention that for most people, it's time for giving (and receiving) Xmas gifts. You may want to put one of the aforementioned software on your wish list. ;)

Admittedly, Vegas is more complex than WMM. Although a lot of that is a trade off for additional power and stability. Magix is probably closer to WMM (price wise, too). But just like WMM has certain limitations and quirks, Magix has a few issues that the noted Magix users here have found ways of getting around.
