Most popular AMV Music genre?

Hey, I am pretty new here, first topic...

I am about to start work on my very first AMV tonight, an Advent Children AMV. Bit late I know, but it's the only movie I have ripped on my computer right now, and I think it will be a good starting point.

I havn't been that into the AMV scene, watched the occasional AMV or 2 on YouTube... I find many of them to be confusing, Anime that I havn't seen, just random clips put together with music in the background...

And I thought, wow... maybe there is more to this than I first thought... so I will give it a shot, I want to start getting into this- And make something better than that, oneday.

But yeah, sorry for that intro- What do you guys find to be the most common music genre put into AMV's?

I'm guessing a lot of Linkin Park, right?
Maybe Jrock, Jpop etc?
How about Trance?
Any music genres that definatly don't work in AMV's?

Mhmm... Good ones? Not too many. I think you´ll like this one:

There is stuff of this genre, but the rock-genre might be the big majority.

There isn´t one. I think you can make an AMV with every song as long as you´re creative enough.

And make something better than that, oneday.

Keep on and you´ll. This site offeres thousand things of very usefull knowledge. The huge amount of knowledge might fright new ones, but if you take your time to work throw the guides (especially this one for technical stuff) it´s easy to learn, because you don´t have to know 100% of the things that stand in there.

most used genres: Rock, pop, techno, jpop etc..

genres hard to use in amvs: rap and country, or any song that has a specific story in it that would make it difficult to find a show with scenes to match the lyrics

Also be advised that a lot of people hate Advent Children because there are so many (relatively speaking) AMVs that use it, but fail to do anything original with it. Then there's people who just abhor it on principle....

Don't let that stop you, though, in fact, consider that to be all the more reason to do your best!

The demography of used genres differs greatly between the community on the forums and the rest of the site's users. Not wanting to use too broad a brush for this, the forum users are far less likely to use nü-metal, whereas on the main site in general that percentage sharply rises. Generally speaking, though, both sides still broadly deal in the category of 'Rock' (which I'm using in the strict sense of the term, not in the popular sense of music that 'sounds hard' or places a greater emphasis on electric guitar playing).

And my god, the hardest part of making an AMV has -got- to be picking the song... so many choices, can't decide!

i usually find i end up picking songs first and animes second... though there are shows i wanna do vids to and i have no song ideas for them...
