Best AMV Awards

Post by Zactar » Mon Dec 17, 2007 12:46 am

Cybrose, R3DF4CT10N, and Zactar are have created an award for the best AMVs on YouTube. They are grading the AMVs on Editing, Content, and Timing. The greatest effort possible has been made to avoid prejudices in the music and anime chosen for the vid in order to ensure that it is the best AMV, not the best anime or best music. They will re-post their top ten AMVs with commentary on why it was good and what (if anything) brought it down. Their announcement video was released last night.

Contest on You-Tube and things on daily motion or other video hosting websites are probably not allowed here. (I think)

Well, I apologize if such things are not allowed on this site, but I just wanted to announce it to the greatest amount of people who are interested in AMVs possible, hence the post on this site.

This is like comparing coal to lead.

What?

Post by Zactar » Mon Dec 17, 2007 8:18 pm

Why is that? Coimparing coal to lead in reference to Youtube and Dailymotioin, or the contest itself?

And, by the way, both coal and lead are (usually) pure forms of elements (C and Pb respectively), so they do have some similarities...

I truly hope your hours of searching weren't in vain, but I suspect that's the case with the tube. I completely agree with you about the 'bad' example... that was indeed terrible, and I'm sure other people here could throw in some more meaningful adjectives to describe it.

But the 'good' example was mediocre at best. Yes I understood the lip sync [which wasn't that great btw], and I even caught the lyric sync... and maybe even a beat sync... I think, but I can't remember because the clip really wasn't memorable... at all.

The thing is, you can't find anything good on the tube-- and if you do, it is destroyed by the audio quality, video quality, sync between the two, streaming breaks... or it was just stolen from this site and posted there...

I may be wrong, but have you ever downloaded anything through this site?

and if you're hooked on Naruto, try here:

[...some of those are debatable, but they give you a general idea of 'good' if not at least competent]

Thank you for your input.

Actually, those clips were made by us, not found on You-Tube (to avoid insulting anyone). The bad one is seriously 30 seconds of the Naruto-Sasuke fight set to the worst fitting song imaginable. It's so bad that it's funny. Actually, it's kind of scary how well some of the parts fit together, considering the two minutes it took to make it. We even intentionally left the episode's audio in there at decreased volume, just to decrease quality.

As for the good example, keep in mind that it is only about 30 seconds of a larger video. Any lip-syncing was completely unintentional, and the main good point was instrumental beats and riffs fitting with the vid (esp. the part with light coming through the clouds). Recall that we are grading on Editing (Good amount of editing to fit the vid, but there is such thing as too much), Content (The material present in the song and video and how well they mesh), and Timing (How well the timing of the song was reflected in the video). This video does quite well in each category. Admittedly, it is not the absolute best, but it is much better than most of the crap on You-Tube.

You are correct, most of the stuff on You-Tube is very low quality, which is why we are giving awards to the good ones. Some of the videos may have come from this site, but the point is to have a place for people on You-Tube or DailyMotion to see the best of what we could find. Since we are only posting our top ten, it filters (almost) all of the crap. We have already found our top ten, and are now working on editing them, reformatting the credits to be uniform with music video convention, and adding our comments.

The Naruto vids were only examples, as the awards will be given to any video and song combination that deserves it, regardless of the anime or the music. As far as this site goes, we would be happy to include videos from here in our next batch of awards, just send us those that you think are deserving.

You're in the wrong place if you want to try to convince us that any of that is good in the least.

Any of what? The intro video? AMVs on You-Tube?

I will address your comment assuming that you meant the latter. Once again, we are open to suggestions for our next set of awards, just send us the video you think is the best, or a link, or whatever. We'll check out anything you send us with an open mind. In fact, if we can get some input for the next awards, they will probably be more accurate, considering that the current ones are limited to what we could find during hours of fishing on You-Tube. With that, please, show us what you consider to be good.

Thank you for your input!
