Because they were uploaded by people that do not respond to my politely worded form letter to take my stuff down.Bauzi wrote:Why do you flag them?Seriously, I've flagged hundreds of them - and seen thousands get taken down.

One of the main reasons .Org members here hate YTube is because it brings mainstream attention to the illicit activity that is AMV making. As mentioned it is technically very, very illegal, violating the copyrights of the music artist, his label, the film company, the actors, animators, directors, and producers involved in the source footage, and the user agreement of the streaming sites (YT now explicitly states music videos are banned unless both the footage and music were created by the uploader).
If you lurked more, you may have realized that this site got in a crapload of trouble a few years ago, which is why nothing containing songs by Evanesence and a couple of other artists from a certain label are available for download. AMVs which get too much attention on YT (such as being highlighted by a contest like this) are soon taken down and the user banned. If the music industry completely realized the scope of this hobby, you could very well see AMV contests dissapear from cons and AMVs themselves from much of the internet, likely after the industry tries to sue the butts off the lot of us. Yes, this is a worst-case scenario, but something the community is trying to avoid like the plague. Hence, this sort of thing is frowned upon.
Final point - the contest is a nice idea in theory, and there ARE some good AMVs on the Tube. In what may seem like complete hypocracy on my part, I have some of mine there - mostly to prevent other people from downloading them here and uploading them there so I have some control over them, however limited. However, I don't think you're doing the creators any favors with this, and that is the reason this is getting a lot of negative feedback from this forum.

What you say may be all too true, but that doesn't address the fact that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of AMVs on YTube. I doubt that the worst-case scenario you described would happen because, simply put, AMVs don't actually hurt anyone. OK, so you're taking someone else's video and someone else's music to create something new and different, but that is what about half the videos on YTube do anyway. These awards are merely a way for us to recognize good AMVs and to provide people with a place to find good AMVs.
On a happier note, #10 is up, so check it out if you want, they only get better from here on out...
