Okay. So, here's what a frame looks like in VirtualDubMod when I just navigate to it, without hitting the 'play' button.

There's none of that blockiness when I just play the plain VOB files in VLC, so I don't think it's a ripping problem, and there's nothing in my script except for the command to open the file (I didn't want to touch the footage until I figured out the problem). Deen doesn't do anything except make the blocks less grainy. Is there a plugin I can use to fix this or is it some weirdness with virtualdubmod, or what?

V-dubmod defaults to showing video in a lower bitdepth than it is encoded in. There's a playback section where you can change that so it doesn't look like crap.
