What script? If it was that function to remove the green bar then I haven't an idea of why you saw a loss in overall quality...
All it does is set a compatibility mode on for older Avisynth filters. Try switching to DGIndex instead to get around the whole issue of green bars.
Anyway, for deinterlacing and avisynth. Maybe try reading the amv guide a bit. Your source may not even need to be deinterlaced (might just need IVTC).
