Post by bloppyblue » Tue Dec 04, 2007 3:36 pm

Im a total noob at this kind of stuff, and i really need to find a program to convert ogm to avi.

This might be the stupidest question ever ( ), but does VirtaulDubMod do that?

yes, vdubmod can do that

1. drag and drop the .ogm file into vdubmod
2. go to file, save as
3. select the codec you want to use (something lossless for editing, like huffyuv or lagarith) by clicking the change button near the bottom
4.???
5.profit

...ok, so those last 2 steps are fake
but you just sit back and watch it go after you hit save

There is an easier way, download a program called ALL to AVI it will transfer ogm, and mkv files to avi, also you can select the subtitling and audio setting vary easily.

the only problem with it is that it converts to divx or xvid avi...which is not good for editing. (ref: http://www.aquilinestudios.org/DivX_Editing.html)

vdubmod isn't that hard...

if i do this via vdub, will i get to change it to only english adio with no subs or japanese audio? I used a program called OGM to AVI and when i play my gundam wing eps, they play jap and eng audio at the same time. My end of Evangelion clips has no sound period

you can go to streams-stream list (vdubmod) and enable/disable the various video and audio streams.

the subs, however, depends on if they are hardsubbed or softsubbed.
you'll be able to disable the softsubs the same way you disable video/audio streams.

Should I assume hard subs are subs placed via dvd as opposed to soft subs which are by fan-made groups?

you'll find harsubs and softsubs on both fansubs and dvds.
softsubs are more common these days though.

hardsubs = can't be easily removed (without cropping the video) because the text is overlayed on top of the video before encoding.

sofstubs = you can turn them on and off

Under my stream list, i had a file i could save as a WAV and then the other required demuxing. I guess i should assume it was a .ogm that only had the options for japanese with or without subs.
