Premiere Elements 4 Jerky Playback

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I have recently bought Adobe PE4 and had some trouble getting it to import Xvid/Divx but downloaded the codec and now it works fine except that in the preview window on occassion the video lags or gets jerky and its not because my PC is below specs. Its easily up to snuff. I am wondering if there is anyway to get rid of this lag and if not will the lag show up in the finished product?

You are NOT supposed to edit videos using compressed sources. Convert your xvid/divx files to a lossless codec such as huffyuv or lagarith. You'll find these two codecs in the amvapp along with alot of other useful and free stuff for amv editing.

Gotcha. Okey dokey. If at all possible I would rather not have to convert my files. I have a very large number of them so I think it would take alot of time to go through them one by one, but if that is the only way... how do I go about doing that.

P.S. I am about as noob as they come.... Just treat me like I am a small child or perhaps mentally challenged

Well... there *is* a way to frameserve compressed files to a video editor... it would involve to make fake avis with vfapiconv or with ffdshow's makeavis. But as it looks like it doesn't work very great for everyone, I don't know how much is it worth trying. It happens to lag or give strange errors and stuff on some PCs, so it would be better to just encode the episodes you got into a lossless codec and you won't experience any problem (perhaps the problem you might have would be a lack of HD space...).
Also, I should suggest you to read this. It's a long reading, but it is very helpful as it explains everything that comes before and after the actual editing of an amv in a video editor.

Ok well what if the problem is with AVI's? I have the same problem. The AVI's get jerky in the preview window.

the problem isn't the container (.avi in this case) but rather with the codec (as mentioned earlier)

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room

if you want to edit reliably, you will have to do this

Ok gotcha, but as I said earlier, is there anyway to do this without going through one file at a time? I have quite a few and would rather not have to go through one by one by one. If I have to then I have to and am willing. Also one final question. I haven't tried this yet but I have some anime on my itunes (Speed Grapher, Gunslinger Girl, etc.) and was wondering if there was anyway to get those out of Itunes and into Adobe PE4 for editing.

(About the system specs... I am on my labtop right now and will post my specs as soon as I get back to my desktop.)

Yes, there is, it involves just appending the diferent video files one after the other until you have them all in the script. This single file will most likely be upwards of 100GB in size depending on the length of the series.

So essentially just combing the entire series into one big clip, then converting that big clip to the lagarith or huffy codec, yes?
