New Artist Looking for tips

Post by Casterday » Tue Mar 04, 2008 2:07 pm

Good day everyone!

I am a new AMV artist looking for some hints and tips on creating videos and have been building my first project (which has a hosted project clip on Youtube) and wanted to ask some questions to artists who are widely known.

I want to debut a release (which some of my friends have already gotten, but amv is still unfinished) sometime in the near future. However I'm short on programs which can help host here, and Youtube. I have seen some great vids from here, and some which aren't so great. What's the best idea for release dates?

for most of your questions, I think the sticky at the top of this forum will help ya out. (also has a list of common editing programs people use)

There really is no best release date, though if you care about the VCAs it's better to release vids about mid-late summer (that way the video is still pretty fresh in people's minds but also has enough time to attract enough people to make a serious run)

not quite sure what you mean by "programs which can help host here"...so I'll just cover it all.
I like filezilla (ftp client) for uploading videos to this site
this guide is a bit outdated, but still helpful for figuring out how to make a video entry

To make your video under the 100MB limit, there is really no replacement for the new amvapp and the new eadfag
the guide is pretty technical, but if you work through the guide (or read it enough) it should become your best friend

agrees to Kariudo and if your filesize is 200mb well I think learn more about compression to lower your project size techguides

I notice a lot of people use Adobe Premiere, but the software I am using is Pinnacle Studios Pro, a very efficient program that seems to do most of what goes on with the video editing sequences. I've had a lot of videos made and most are clean uploads, and happy that these uploads are actually looking better in quality, (using vcl and Windows Media Player as formats to watch the Videos) excellent coloring and textures are not pixelated like other vids I have seen on noobtube.

Thanks for the hints, tips and links.

do you mean "export" and not "upload"?

a tiny bit of terminology:

export: video file created from your editing program
upload: the process of transferring a file to a website

and sometimes the "pixelation" or "macroblocking" that happens on youtube is the fault of youtube itself... I've seen really lovely quality videos turn to crap after going through youtube's processing.

I'll figure out all this terminology soon, but yea its an export off of my programs, and I also am happy to say my current project is less than 30 seconds from completion. Pinnacle Studios has given me the option of exporting in two ways, 29.98 AND 29.97... I'm happy I can record the vid in two ways, for TV and for Computer use.

A current (yet outdated) clip on Noobtube of my project, (casterday project #1 on casterday1) is on display for those interested, yet[/i]
