Sometimes it works, sometimes not. But it's NEVER good to work with compressed video. While it might work, you'll still have editing problems. Like, say, slow seeking, blocking, wrong frame order and whatnot. Just convert your video to Huffyuv or Lagarith and you're done.Ryko89 wrote:yeah, k, thanks. But that still doesn't answer my question. Is there a reason why it turns black? I've been using Xvid in APP before and this has never happened

technically speaking huffyuv and lagarith ARE compressions... they are lossless codecs that were "made for editing" though where as XVID/DIVX were not made for editing in the least.mirkosp wrote:But it's NEVER good to work with compressed video. ... Either way you should use a lossless format O:

my theory: because xvid and other similar codecs make use of p-frames and b-frames (or generally, anything not a key frame [i-frame])Ryko89 wrote:Is there a reason why it turns black? I've been using Xvid in APP before and this has never happened
p and b frames do not contain all the information, so when you make a cut or other change to the footage, you run the risk of taking away the information that you need to display those p and b frames
it doesn't matter if it used to work if it isn't working when you need to export O:
