I used to recall being able to take subtitle information directly from the VOBs and put it into a video file without the subtitles being "read" and converted into text files along the way. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with the list, index, or info files, and required quite a bit of guesswork as to what parts of the subtitle data applied to what parts of the video and audio data.
Does anyone know what I'm referring to?

Maybe I want subtitles in my music videos. Sometimes, when I'm making a music video from a non-anime source, I like to throw in bits of dialog. I'd like to be able to do the same thing with anime, but I'm sure as hell not going to use the English dubs, and I want my audience to know what the hell the characters are saying. So nyah
