Mr Oni
If I recall, back when anime was sold on tapes, it was so rare, so new, that it was expensive regardless of how you tried to get it. And it was rare if you could even find a retail source in the first place.

But yeah, Ranma has always led the pack in my collection for stuff I thought was dreadfully expensive. I hope a dvd set can be said to be finally economical on dvd once Blueray gets set up as the new format fully.
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

They should sell a whole season as one box.

And no, I don't mean all the individual DVDs packed together >_>

No i don't think its too much. If you're gonna watch an anime u should pay for what your are watching. The only DVDs i refuse to buy are those for the long series. cause theyre way... too... damn... long...

I usually buy the box set after its all been released. Saves a lot of $.

It doesn't affect me since I just watch my anime on nthe web. I have some small use for DVDs. Let's say I spot a DVD of an anime in a store and it looks interesting but I never would have discovered the anime any other way. Then it's of use.

I was making a point how they aren't really much of a rip-off well.... maybe they are.... but I don't normally buy them so... well whatever I don't need to be here. Guess I'll get out.

I wait for box sets. Seriously, with college and all, I don't have the extra money to buy much of this stuff. The last thing I bought was the Ah! My Goddess Season 1 box set. It was about $54 as opposed to the $156 or so that it would've been (before tax) to buy the 6 volumes separately. $100+ savings? Yes, please. :)
... yea ...

Um, to be perfectly honest, I mostly copy every anime DVD I get from Netflix onto DVD-R's. I buy the blanks from Best Buy or Walmart, whoever has the best offers, and use those to make my own dvd's. Thanks to DVD Decrypter and Shrink, it's become relatively easily.

I claim they're all for creative purposes (I need the iso's for amv's). But I'm beginning to feel my reasoning becoming ulterior. I find myself copying movies from rental stores and anywhere else, even downloading torrents of full actual dvd's straight from Japan. I have never tried selling copies of these things though, despite how easy it is, because I don't feel right about it. Plus, I wouldn't know a dealer where I live willing to sell that stuff on the streets (in my city, they sell ripped dvds in small-chain grocery stores).

Thankfully, with my new full-time job, I've begun to make amends and buy my own dvds from stores and ebay. I'm even going back to replace the ones I've copied over the years with legits. It was fun while it lasted, but I feel I've outgrown my "wild sprees" as of late. I'm not completely over it though, due to my amv creating, but I hope I'll be able to move past this in the near future, possibly once Blu-Ray completely takes over the competition.

Plus, I keep ending up with unreadable discs from Netflix. Eh.

Yea, ive tried netflix but it was too annoying for me. Every time they send me an unreadable disk i have to mail it back and wait for a replacement. It was just not worth the trouble and to be honest... their service sucks.
