Most Moving Anime?

Post by y2kwizard » Sun Nov 10, 2002 2:45 pm

Hello all. I'm relatively new to the whole anime scene, and I'm looking for a good series to start with. More specifically, I'm looking for one of the most moving anime series that are out there.

I've heard that Eva tends to make people really squirm and think about life, but I really haven't heard about any really moving animes otherwise. I mean, I know that I might wanna try the Cowboy Bebops and Triguns for their coolness factors, but I'm looking for a really good, moving anime.

Anyone have any advice for me? Thanks a lot!

Well, I thought the last couple of episodes of Saber Marionette J were pretty moving, (the first 20-some episodes are almost pure comedy, but the last few eps take a much more serious turn).

Here's all the others I can think of: Boogiepop Phantom has a very engaging story, but I'm not sure if I'd call it genuinely "moving" though. Trigun had some pretty emotional moments. Jin Roh: the Wolf Brigade was a very moving experience, and I've heard good things about Grave of the Fireflies.

I also feel I should reinforce what people are saying about Evangelion. It gets quite serious in the second half, fleshing out the characters and revealing their inner demons. It can be a very moving experience if you give it the chance.
Who knows what fires burn in the souls of others, or what burdens weigh upon their hearts?

there's this one anime that's like Ai Yori Aoshi (sorta Old Yeller humified ;-p) but it's hentai ;-p I'd imagine that'd move ppl alot... if you prefer clothes than Ai Yori Aoshi. If you aint so down with the romantics than try Ayashi No Ceres (Celestial Legend in NA), it's a bit romantic but mostly action... like a bit more intense Titanic. if you no want romantic than why ask for drama?!?! The best you'll get is a few episodes of Mellowdrama, I love mellowdrama like what my Av has (Evangelion), RahXephon has some and Outlaw Star does it nicely... JinRoh is pretty good at it (as is Metropolis) but it doesn't quite hit the spot for me... and those two are 90 minute movies so... Ai Yori Aoshi is only available fansubbed btw.
Macross and Beserk are another story, sorta Titanic (Ceres) inversed... you'll catch drama but it's more romantic but it's not... well youll see. I recomend those too.

 yeah jest about everybody sheds a tear when watching Grave of the Fireflys (movie) and Now and Than Here and There (12 eps)... really depressing but happy at the same time... but mostly depressing

On the other hand would be Escaflowne (26 eps) and Princess 9 (25 eps?) course I'm biased with Princess 9 cuz it's about baseball and I love baseball ;-p... otherwise it's just pretty good, not Escaflowne level (btw the Esc series is moving, the movie isn't...)

You guys have pretty much hit what I'm looking for on the head.

These past few weeks have been a bit depressing for me, and I'm also looking for something...well...I dunno. Maybe a VENT for this depression, maybe something uplifting, or maybe something depressing. Any ideas?

Thanks again for your replies.
