Why make AMVs? -Why not?!

How do you pick your music?
• Starts with the music
• Sometimes with the anime first
• Pick a word, Google ftw, Itunes(amazon mp3s)
• Ask your peers, what maywork?

Methods for editing, Software and editing tools
• Adobe Premiere
• Sony Vegas

Anime Choices, Old vs New, methods of selection
• What creator has in library
• Whatever fits
• What you can beg, borrow, “download”
• What creator enjoys watching
• Epileptic squirrels(on fire, in-between frames)
• Newer anime requires less filtering, enhancement
• Older anime is less available, unless you are a cho-taku anime collector
• Newer animation styles are more conducive to editing
• Older anime may have more familiarity with fans

Where does insanity start? From where does your originality originate?
• Watch other videos, see what has/has not been done(due diligence)
• Linkin park to anything; been done, but not well
• Being the first with a concept FTW(for the win)!
• If you can do better on existing concept
• Insanity, “It comes naturally”
• What you can do with the anime and the song together, synergy
• Again, not linkin park – sore spot, “14 yr old Ritalin xbox boy”
o You can often tell a lot about a person based on the AMVs they make
• Just because the music and anime kick ass separately, does not mean your AMV will kick ass as well.
• Sometimes you have the “Hand of god” with you(Hikaru no go reference)
• When insanity fits into your schedule

How long does it take you to make a video
• Few days to 3 months (World of Warcraft depending)
• Depends on amount of footage, material gathering is time consuming
• Effects can be time consuming
o i.e. Adding a lottery ticket in each frame, lots of editing time
• 1 month or before you lose interest (burn out)
• Average a week for one creator
• 40 hours for one project

Pitfalls of the AMV creator way of life
• Using too much filler when you run out of clips
• Computer/software trouble or crashing, encoding, rendering
• Random software anger(vengeful computer syndrome)
• computer against the wall syndrome
• Unrealistic expectations
• Forgetting to save
• Insufficient footage
• Song length being excessive
• Music becoming repetitive and annoying even before you start editing
• pebkac – Problem exists between keyboard and chair(more training needed)
