A reasonably powerful and free audio/video editing suite can be found if you assemble the components found at the following sites:

http://www.theorie.physik.uni-goettinge ... transcode/
http://www.gimp.org
http://www.heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3

...well, actually, it's only free if your time is worthless.
...or if you're a genius.
For me, it's the former.

Whoa whoa there "Mr. Spamda Can't Drive Loonix Boy", that's all for loonix 8)

Not for the windows, unfortunately you're not going to have much luck with finding free stuffs. Get the Premiere demo off of Adobe's website and give that a whirl. There are also less legal methods to obtain copies of softwares, but we shunt talk about them here.

Unfortunately, those probably aren't the best things to be starting out with unless you're already fairly well versed in Linux, or wanted to get into it in the first place. I've looked into Cinelerra myself, but I wasn't able to get too far before getting frustrated with it and booting back over to use Premiere in Windoze. I'd love to see someone write a guide on AMV'ing under Linux though...

one of you guys ever heard of the german <a href="http://download.com.com/3000-2194-89528 ... ag=lst-0-1" target="_blank">moviexone</a>? (aviable in english also)
its FREE, it works like premiere with much less options and is VERY safe. althrough it can restore projects if it crashes. best free program, undoubtely for me.
even only the thing that it exports in avi makes it imho better than wmm

illegal copies of software like Primeir 6.0 and After effects 5.0 are unethical and under the domain of the 'forces of just plane wrong'.

That said, editing software is expensive. I suggest using Primeir or Ulead under a test period and get comfortable. Perhaps at some point you might even 'buy' the software.

I wonder what's that like. 'Buying' software?

Jesus christ man, this is a forum, not AIM. Not to be overly rude, but learn to spell.

And please don't go off on a rant about how you don't care and how I'm being an oppressive facist nazi for asking that people maintain some semblence of intelligence on this forum. I've heard it all before.
