To HD or not to HD?
I'm starting a True Tears AMV atm with true HD source (1440x1080 anamorphic, so it plays back at 1920x1080 for correct AR)...
--Should I try to clear off enough space to re-encode it into Lagarith files, or go with something more reasonable like 848x480?
I know that most cons prefer or convert videos into MPEG2 standard for contests, but it would seem nice to keep the master or archive version at the higher res.
Any comments?

Yeah, I'm going to say it's most likely not 1080p, but it's definitely at least 720p. You can really tell the 480p upscales, because they are garbage.
Here's an example shot in 1080p and downscaling the raw to 720:

I wouldn´t consider (at your situation) to be worth it. Why should you clean up your whole hd (well you should clean it anyway from time to time, but that´s not the point)?
Furthermore I doubt that a lot of people will watch your amv on a full hd medium. Let´s say: You could edit with it. Why not... but when it requires some additional work I don´t feel that it´s worth it for now.
You better pay more attention about the points that Zarx brought up.

I've always liked to work with HD, and I guess I'm one of those who has the monitor\pc to watch it on as well.
But really, if you find some real GOOD HD, like Appleseed HD in suppah high quality, then it's just plain sex, but if it is as mentioned upscaled, then it's not worth it. I once saw an anime opening in 1920x1200, exactly the size of my mac monitor, and it looked 100 % normal, couldn't see any difference between it in SD and HD.
But still, working inside AE with HD is just awesome, so much room to work on =D
