Ummm... that's from the movie. But don't watch the movie.. it'll ruin the series definitely. I'm glad I watched that after I watched the series, it just takes scenes from the whole anime and reanimates it all while jumping around so much you'll miss a lot story from the series and get confused about why certain things are happening. You'll end up knowing some things that are to come in the series if you watch the movie first. So I say avoid it and go check out the series first.

Why is it widescreen and that scene happens in the movie as well.

Maybe I'm wrong that the exact frame is not from the movie but the scene that goes on in that part is definitively in the movie.

RahXephon has a funky history. The scene was in the TV series first, and about half the movie is material cribbed directly from the TV series.
