I recently read an 11 page thesis on Ash Ketchum. It states that very early in the series Ash was struck by lightning and was left in a coma. Everything else that has happened in the show since is all in his head. The thesis states that depending on how Ash wakes up, he may very well die. (This thesis actually exists.)

Q1: How long has he been in this coma?
Q2: If he does wake up (and lives), what's next for him?
Q3: Ash did bump into misty prior to being struck. What happens when he sees her again
