I got tired of the Simpsons, then I got tired of TV coz its all reality TV now then I got tired of LA and Hollywood movies because its always the same damn thing, especially when it comes to drama, then when they run of ideas which they never really had, they make a movie out of a comic book story. Good job Hollywood. At least there is a lot of variety with anime, ~20 new shows a season, so I can pick and choose what I want to watch based on my tastes for entertainment.

I might be the only one to say it this way, but contrary to popular opinion, I'm not sitting here with a boner oogling under age school girls flashing their undies
I'm extremely well educated, I've read and seen a mountain of history, and science.
I am fully aware of the facts, not the spin doctored crap, but the actual science and history of this sorry little planet and it's nasty little sentient race.
And after a dose of catching up on the latest atrocities, the invariable delusions, the bullshit, the political meddlings and all the rest. I NEED the harmless funny charm of anime.
It's not stressful. The real world sure as shit is though.
The difference between anime and a soap opera, is the soap opera is still real people in the real world. It might be made up, but it's just them pretending to be doing all the shit everyone is actually doing to each other.
Anime is a lot more fun. It's overly pretty girls, overly buff guys, mechs, space battles, ninjas, martial arts, monsters, love and romance, silly adventures, epic quests, good guys vs the bad guys.
And you don't get any of that on trendy crap like the Simpsons, or obnoxious poorly drawn garbage like South Park. That stuff is all dated, and a week after it airs no one cares if they see it again.

Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

I suppose since just about every medium of entertainment is rife with archetypes, stereotypes, and all-to-familiar situations, I find the ones in anime to be the most appealing to my sense of humor.

Well it's animated, so they can do anything they want and are not limited to what people and technology can accomplish. Anime tends to be more aimed at teenagers and adults than american cartoons. But teenager and adult CARTOONS tend to be really stupid. Anime is quite visually appealing (and that isn't limited to fanservice). The stories are often very good. I get bored really fast watching TV. The only TV shows I really watched are things like Mythbusters and Simpsons. I originally got into anime without knowing it. I watched Sailor Moon when I was little and I didn't know what anime was. I saw Gundam Wing and DBZ and Pokemon too. The first anime I watched when I knew it was anime was Inuyasha. I didn't become an otaku until I tagged along with my schools anime club to check out the local Anime Convention since I was bored and had nothing better to do. I fell in love with anime instantly. The first show I watched after that was Haruhi Suzumiya. Basically I watch anime because there is so many different kinds, different series and I love the art style. Though I've read manga since I was 11.
