WMM automaticly shuts down after error message. Help?

I know there have been other bulletins regarding this issue, but I decided to post a bulletin that directly deals with it. I get that same exact error message, that people have been complaining about on here and it shuts down right after that. Usually wmm has been a good program for me, but I have no idea why its doing that now. The problem comes up after I try to drag WMV video files ripped from actual dvd's to the timeline, If someone can clearly explain how to fix this, that'd be great!

Intuitively, it seems natural to edit WMV files in WMM; but that's not the case since wmv files are made for distribution [the way they are compressed isn't suited for editing]; and they are transcoded from DVD's, so no, you are not actually editing with DVD footage.

There are minor exceptions to this, but for explanations of why you can and can't edit with certain
files [such as DivX, WMV etc...] check out the following link:

Firstly, I greatly appreciate the info in regards to how to fix the problem. However, one thing you said bugged me a little bit. How can you say that footaged ripped straight from the dvd disc (converted by the dvd ripping program into WMV files) not actually editiing with dvd footage? That just doesn't make sense to me at all.

that partly answers your question. DVD footage is encoded into .vob files which have an MPEG-2 video stream; That would be true, unaltered, DVD footage, and it can be copied verbatim from the DVD using software from the above guide. By converting to wmv, the ripper makes an interpretation of the video, and tries to re-create it. During this process, some information is lost, and extra noise is added because of the compression. If you are using a high enough bitrate, you won't see it right away, but by the time you are done editing and exporting, quality degradation accumulates and noise ontop of previous noise builds up, making it harder to compress your file. So in the end, it's not quite DVD footage.

Converting to lossless is the equivalent of original DVD footage. You could also edit with the original .vob's via .avs scripts, but I don't believe WMM supports that. Using sources other than lossless might work, but it's not worth the risks. So follow the guides and you should be fine; I can also send you a Guide Summary if you PM me
