I had to read that a few times before actually being able to understand the sentence fragments...

But, no, I won't outright sugar-coat something to make someone feel better. I might not go into detail if I don't want to deal with the time and effort needed to explain everything - it's more for my convenience than theirs.

I just try to make it sound nicer.Like saying they can improve this instead of just saying It's Crap.Cause I know some editors can't take criticism and start an flame war.

I tend to be brutally honest when giving feedback in detail. From time to time they can't handle it, but by then it's invariably too late.

But to answer the original question, no. In cases like that I will occasionally try to dodge the issue, but I won't try to soften the blow. If they can't take the criticism, they really shouldn't have asked.

This is a pretty loaded question, folks. Who the heck is going to raise their hand and say "Yes! I give false praise, lie, laugh at people behind their backs and enjoy being an untrustworthy source of feedback on AMVs? Yay me!"

Anyone? No? Wow. Ok, that's not necessarily what people do when they give false comments due to a desire to be nice, but hopefully you get my point.

So as you can see, I try to be very honest and forthright with my comments on people's AMVs, but always from the angle of "They wanted my opinion, so here it is." Besides, there's a difference between deliberately setting out to hurt someone's feelings and having someone's feelings being hurt because they took what you said the wrong way or (more commonly) can't handle constructive criticism.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if we had the option of allowing our AMVs to be opped. There's definitely the attitude floating around out there that you're not supposed to leave an op unless you're going to gush all over a video, which completely ignores the fact that the entire op scale goes from 1-10 and that, therefore, AMVs of all makes and models are subject to feedback.

Yeah, I'm quite honest with my comments, though sometimes I get hyped over a video when I'm opping it. It really feels like that when writing the op and finding details and everything. It's like a placebo effect a video has on me when I'm completely focused on reviewing. I've tried to tone that down to a reasonable level though >_>

And there's always a way to pass on criticism in a nice way. Begin honest ≠ being an ass, so there's always a way to form your opinion nicely, without being a jerk or too witty. You might get a grin on your face for your own clever comments but it's obviously not very useful for the receiver.

I'm pretty honest on it unless two factors are in play

1. They are really touchy when it comes to their work
2. They are standing right in front of me

Because my god if those two things occur you are in for a nasty fight.

That's when it quits being a chore to watch their crap and starts getting amusing.

When you phrase it like that I almost want to say something nice to guy07 just so I can move on to the laughing behind his back part.
