Hm ... no, but if somebody obviously spend a lot of time on elaborate effects, then of course i'm going to like it (well, not always, but usually). The more effort you put into an amv the better it will be, right?

i'm serious, if you try really hard, then at the very least your efforts will be recognized. not necessarily on effects, but in general. some interesting use of effects would just be the icing on the cake.

A good/strong video concept will be good regardless of how it's edited. The best editing is when you don't see/realize there is editing going on because it feels right/natural.

I don't think a lot of flashy special effects are necessary for a good AMV. But it does seem that AMVs with the most creative use of special effects get the most notice. Not that there's anything wrong with that though. Just use whatever you need to tell your story.
