How long does everyone typically wait in line to see the amvs? Some people line up uber early for it. I liked how they show us earlier people anime to keep us entertained while we wait for the rest to filter in.
Thanks! Cons are always fun for me. Otakon has just gotten more and more fun for me each year, but I think this year's Katsucon was my fave con experience ever (my first time cosplaying and meeting Johnny Yong Bosch had a lot to do with that), so size doesn't always matter. I've only really been to Otakon and Katsucon. I think I had a brief visit to A-USA, but that doesn't really count. It's been interesting to see Katsu grow from the teeny con on one floor at the Baltimore Marriott back in 2002 to what it is now. Otakon just always seems big to me, even though it grows yearly. AX has more people, but I actually talk to people that have been to both and they say they like Otakon more. Also, AX I hear is on much larger property and is spaced out so that it doesn't seem as crowded as Otakon (ie: that Otaku funk we all know and are very familiar with seems to be non-existant at AX).Kazemon15 wrote:Lucky. I hope you have fun. =3 I have never been to another con besides AX, but seeing how many ppl like going to this one, I may attend next year. XD

The two years marked (.org) can only be considered estimates, as they're what animemusicvideos.org claims was submitted. All of the other years were verified through either this forum, or internet-wayback-machine caches of Otakon forums.

I always go to Otakon on saturday, and I've never had a problem waiting in line. There's always been seats available.NightMistress85 wrote:How long does everyone typically wait in line to see the amvs? Some people line up uber early for it. You don't make it a 3-dayer eh? Fridays are typically pretty crazy. I've always seen the amvs on a Friday. Saturday is the Masquerade madness.Davis 51 wrote:I always go to Otakon on saturday, and I've never had a problem waiting in line. One of these con's, I'd like to actually make a 3-day. But as it stands, I don't have the time. Saturday is where all the good stuff usually is, so I try to make it then.NightMistress85 wrote:You don't make it a 3-dayer eh? Fridays are typically pretty crazy. This being my first year out of school, I'm technically taking vacation time to do this. Will probably work half a day Thursday, and take off Friday. It really is a different experience soaking in all 3 days though and hanging out with your friends, and meeting new ones.Davis 51 wrote:One of these con's, I'd like to actually make a 3-day. Ah, good times. Still my favorite Otakon and favorite AMV contest ever (and I've seen a lot). Hopefully you can surpass it .VicBond007 wrote:Otakon 2003: 195
...and I won't guess since you already sorta told me at one point >_>.

Something doesn't seem right about these numbers. I know 2004 was the one year that FTP submission was available, and I was at the prescreenings that year, and we had to watch 11 hours' worth of videos (good times, good times).VicBond007 wrote:Otakon 2003: 195

I also remember the prescreenings being much shorter in 2005.

So, uh, which is it again that are the good years? Odd years, right? Or was that pattern broken while I wasn't paying attention?

Opposite of the Star Trek rule so it's odd years that are 'good.'Scintilla wrote:Something doesn't seem right about these numbers. And I'm fairly sure those numbers are correct since I remember a steep dropoff after Matt Pyson left (i.e. 2003 was his final year). Perhaps not that steep though?
