I grew up watching cartoons like tom and jerry, where the animators put pride in their work, even though the stories were really simplistic. then I caught Macross on TV back in middle school, and well from there I was hooked. It's about the great stories, the ability of anything can happen, and the effort spent to make anime a high quality production. It's the different artistic abilities, stories and just the overall way it's weaved together. it's all about the artwork, and story. More often then not the story.

Same here... my first craze would probably be Pokemon, my childhood favourite would be Thomas the Tank Engine

Pretty the same with me, and maybe the same with all of us.1arururu wrote:I grew up watching cartoons like tom and jerry, where the animators put pride in their work, even though the stories were really simplistic. then I caught Macross on TV back in middle school, and well from there I was hooked. ...I honestly can't give any explicitly concrete reason why i watch anime. It just offers what I love, curvy women in skimpy practically non-existent clothing slaughtering legions of undead/warriors/aliens/etc while keeping up the panty shots and cleavage factor. What's not to love? plus, the yuri, definitely the yuri.

Seriously, mainly because I was kid and I preferred fantasy and works along those lines. I got into cartoons and even saw a few anime when I was younger without even realizing they were anime. Then as I got more into the world of anime and realizing what it was, it was like the world I longed for. Mainly because I considered it more unique to the usual fare of "cartoons" and the fact that I discovered they actually had linear plots with storylines instead of episodic content. I still love the cartoons because deep down i'll stay 9 years old for the next 40 years but I view anime as being a catalyst for my imagination.
