I was browsing the early posts in the Contests forum today, and it amused me how many online contests offered hosting as a prize. :3

Before there was a golden doughnut... or an a-m-v.org...
I was hosting my own videos on my own website... but before that...
They were on Omar's FTP server... but before that...
They were hosted on what was commonly called "Hawaii's FTP server".
That was 10 years ago. Seems like a long time.

Anybody who was kind enough to lend me space and bandwidth. Then I moved onto hosting my vids on Geocities. That went well. After that I think I found a free hosting service that was particularly limited (I couldn't host any vids bigger than 30 or 40 megs without risking bandwidth overuse). Eventually I bit the bullet and bought some.
I now happily rely on DreamHost. And the Donut.

Yeah, I kinda felt old just making the thread, I only had one AMV hosted there but nonetheless considering the tube and the org it makes me feel old.OtakuOutpost wrote: They were hosted on what was commonly called "Hawaii's FTP server".
