.MKV question

Post by Vanity » Tue Jun 17, 2008 12:59 am

Hey guys i have to ask something, i reconverted a ergo proxy video from .mkv to avi.(xvid) and the quality was all distored and what not. I wanted to know if there is a better codec i could convert it to instead of avi. Something that could be edited in sonyvegas and with great quality instead of avi.

:\
fyi .avi isn't a codec it's a container.

You can try editing with .avs from sony vegas and bait n switch, if you dont know what I'm talking about then I suggest you Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides.

Or

Try making either uncompressed, huffyuv or lagarith .avi files. "Huffyuv" & "Lagarith" being lossless codecs. Both are included in the amvapp a link to which is on the page I linked you to before. You should use virtualdubb to make the the lossless files.

There are other options like VFAPI's and such but meh.
new banzors in the making :p

You can always use MkvToolnix to extract the video stream from the .mkv file.

MkvToolnix

Also, you might want to use Mkv Extract GUI to make the extraction easier.

I'm hoping that from here you can take it. Most likely the file will be in xvid or divx format, but if it's in h264 you might be able to import using DirectShowSource in VDUB or you might have to go as far as using command line avc2avi, but now we're getting too far ahead, good luck champ.

Buy the DVDs and use the org's guides, or did the org's stance on downloaded source suddenly change?
