Easy I didn't submit this year. lol. Not enough time to make a new video with everything going on. Seems to be a trend for me recently. I'm hoping to finish a new video before the year is over. Anyways relax Otakon is a huge, so finals or no finals it'll be shown in front of a lot of people.

Good luck to everybody that submitted. If I'm at the con this year I'll stop by the Saturday screening and check it out.

Not necessarily....I went to the showing that my video was in last year (didn't make the contest) and there were only a handful of people there. (It WAS on the last day, after all, it's to be expected) and that was the only one it was shown in. It wasn't even in video one.

For me, making the finals is still a big deal. It's not the end of the world if I don't. As you say, it'll still get shown, I'll still be happy (because the contest would undoubtedly be awesome!) But getting in the contest, THAT's the goal. It's what we all worked so hard for, after all. *nods*

I know what you mean on the time issue, though. I skipped making a vid for Katsucon and spent from AUSA working on this vid for Otakon. Making it into the finals there just once, that's all I need.

On another note, I'd be totally tempted to go to the screening if it weren't for my obvious conflict of interests. I'd say I couldn't sit through 8 hours of video, but the 300 gig hard drive hooked up to my TV says otherwise.

Well, our coordinators did say in the other thread that:

So no one should have that problem this year. :)

sigh....

I'm so worried about my vid. At a different contest it got shifted in category and put into comedy. Which it isn't at all, yes there is one or two jokes that does not make it comedy.

I'm so worried that I did not place it into the right category. I chose upbeat because it's a fun mostly genre-less video. Yet, a friend told me I should have put it into action, but I had already sent it out.

I know I'm worrying about something that I shouldn't worry about. Yet it still makes me uneasy because the wait continues.

Oh well, good luck to us all.
This is how I see things:
A bad AMV makes it look easy
A good AMV makes it look fun
A great AMV makes it look hard
However, the best AMVs make it look impossible

Yeah, same here, except I did the opposite. I was debating on whether to put it in action or upbeat. One of my beta testers said action, so that's where I put it. Starting to wonder if I should have put it upbeat instead. :? (Though I guess it doesn't matter because it fits fine in both. But upbeat has less entries. :P) *shrugs* Eh, what's done is done.

I make more AMVs, depending on whether or not I have a concept in mind.

Right now, I'm coming off of having a trailer and drama vid make the finals (TekkoshoCon in April) and having the same drama vid and a comedy both place as "runner-up" (Anime Mid Atlantic two weeks ago). It's the first time since I started making these things 3 1/2 years ago that I made it onto any ballot. I'm only one step away from my first award.

I entered that comedy AMV into Otakon this year. It is my first with this contest. I think it's the one video I have with the best chance at making it in...

Off beat scenes, too many white dissolves, argh...
Too late t get self-conscious now. :P Just know that you may never be completely satisfied with your work no matter how much you tinker with it. I learned within the past six months to stop editing when, after I feel I have my best work to date, I have the first thought of adding effects, switching scenes around or replacing them, etc. Anyway, you never know which way the judges and viewers are going to lean from one year to the next.

I hope the judges are fully awake when mine comes up, since it's only 45 seconds long. You know,...the "don't blink or you'll miss it" thing.

I don't know how I'd react if I were able to place "Finalist - Otakon 15 AMV Contest (comedy)" in my video's information. Perhaps I'd just stare stupidly at it for a while. I mean,...this is the big stage for the eastern half of the US, no?

Good to know I not the only person worried about that.

I'm more worried because of the fact I kinda used a George Carlin joke, and now look!

If anything, it will probably draw applause. I'll clap, if I'm there. =)

George would want us to be laughing. ;)
